SOUTH
KOREA

The Republic of Korea (herein after Korea) is a country visited by approximately ten million

international travelers every year. With its long history in culture and tradition, the country has

a lot to offer to travelers. The total population of Korea is approximately 51,821,669 (as of August 2021),

with most of the population residing in the Seoul metropolitan area. Outside of Seoul, other large and economically

powerful cities such as Busan, Incheon, Daegu, Daejeon, Gwangju and Ulsan also have higher population

densities than other cities in Korea.

4 SEASONS IN KOREA

There are only minimal regional variations throughout the country, and the year divides neatly into four distinct seasons. There is a delightful SPRING (April to June), a muggy and wet SUMMER (July to August), a refreshing AUTUMN (September to November) and a freezing cold, snowy but dry WINTER (December to March).

Major Tourist Attractions

Insa-dong

Insa-dong, located in the heart of the capital city Seoul, is where old and new co-exist. Insa-dong is full of interesting shops, galleries, traditional restaurants, teahouses, and cafes. Visitors to Insa-dong are recommended to stop by Ssamzigil, a unique structure resembling the Korean alphabet ‘ㅁ’ shape. This shopping complex is dubbed a hidden gem as it offers interesting antiques at affordable prices within the modern exterior of a shopping mall.

Gyeongbokgung Palace

Gyeongbokgung Palace is Korea’s most representative royal palace, showcasing the beautiful traditional architecture of Korea. The palace served as housing for the king as well as a venue for dealing with public affairs. It also presents a beautiful harmony with nature, including gardens and ponds which make a great backdrop for photos.

N Seoul Tower

N Seoul Tower is an all-time favorite tourist attraction and has become a symbol of Seoul. Its view becomes even more spectacular when seen after sunset, as it sits atop Namsan Mountain, offering a panoramic view of the city. The tower not only has the best view in town, but it is also equipped with various subsidiary facilities where visitors can shop and dine, suited for a unique trip both day and night. It is particularly popular among couples, who come on dates and hang locks on the deck railing as a sign of their promise to love each other.

Gangnam Station

The area around Gangnam Station is popular among Korean youths, filled with a variety of shopping, dining, and entertainment options. The station’s underground shopping mall sells everything from brand name clothing to jewelry, accessories, and makeup for all your fashion needs.

Tongin Market

Tongin Market is famous for street foods and dosirak café, a unique buffet-style lunch program offering visitors the opportunity to experience a wide variety of banchan (Korean side dishes) at affordable prices. The menu options are extensive, including rice cakes, healthy vegetables, fruits, street snacks, and much more! What makes this experience even more special is that you can purchase food items with yeopjeon (old brass coins) that is only used in Tongin Market.

Namsangol Hanok Village

Namsangol Hanok Village is a specially organized tourist destination that recreates the traditional appearance of a Korean village from the past. The village has residential houses, pavilions, a common area, promenade and more architectural structures all in one location for visitors to enjoy a quick travel back in time. Visitors can also take a leisurely walk through this calm and relaxing village. In addition, the village offers many programs featuring traditional games and performances as well as hands-on experiences where visitors can learn about Korea’s folk culture.
